Frederick Barrett spots Rose and Jack sneaking around in the boiler room.

Frederick Barrett (born 18 January 1883 – died 3 March 1931) was the head stoker of the heating boiler No. 6 of the Titanic. This is a man of great stature in the loud and bearing. He was surprised to see Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater, two passengers in the boiler room the night of the 14th, then he indicates two stewards in their direction as they try to find them. He and his comrades are sparing no effort to avoid the collision with the iceberg, which is anyway. With water invading the room and watertight doors closing, Barrett yells to his comrades to leave as soon as possible and manages himself to escape.

He then embarked in the boat No. 13 which he took command. Once put to sea, the boat almost gets run over by the boat No. 15. Barrett then tries to cut the ropes while the other occupants of the boat trying to keep the boat No. 15 from landing on them. The next day they were rescued by the Carpathia. He remains with the third class, smoking a cigarette.

Several weeks after the sinking, he found work on Titanic's sister ship, Olympic, as a stoker.

In James Cameron's 1997 film, Titanic, Frederick Barrett was portrayed by Derek Lea.
