Rose standing naked in front of Jack as she prepares to pose for the drawing

The scene depicts Rose being nude when Jack draws her. She pays him to draw her while wearing the Heart of the Ocean diamond. In her dressing room, Rose removes the butterfly comb from her hair along with her earrings and comes out for the drawing wearing only a silk komono and the necklace.  She teases Jack by twirling her sash, then walk right up to him, pays him a coin then takes a step back before preparing to take off her clothes by slowly opening the kimono.  She lets it fall off her shoulders to the floor and stands in front of him completely nude.  Jack tells her to lie down on the couch and, after directing her how he wants her to pose, begins drawing. They shared a short conversation about Jack blushing at drawing her. Apparently her heart was pounding the whole time which we find out when we flash forward to the present where old Rose is telling the story.

Behind the Scenes[]

Titanic was one of the last PG-13 rated films to contain nudity. Shortly after the films release, the rules for each age rating went under heavy changes. Titanic is seen as the primary reason that these changes were made, due to its record breaking popularity.

When Kate Winslet first reveals her body, a visibly flustered Leonardo DiCaprio accidentally says “Over on the bed.” before correcting himself and saying “couch”. This was a mistake that James Cameron elected to keep in as it was a very human reaction.

For the shots that show the drawing being drawn, it is actually Cameron’s hand being shown drawing. DiCaprio actually practiced copying the drawing himself to see if it were possible to use his hand, even if it was minimally. When it was apparent that DiCaprio couldn’t copy the drawing, Cameron elected to just draw it himself in those shots, hoping that the audience wouldn’t notice the older hands.

Due to DiCaprio being right-handed and Cameron being left-handed, Cameron actually drew the drawing backwards for this scene and had the shots flipped in post-production.
